This Cookie Policy explains how Viking Watermark uses cookies and similar storage technologies (such as browser localStorage) when you use our embedded Shopify app or visit our marketing website. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
What Are Cookies?
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device by your browser when you visit a website. Cookies allow a site to remember information about your visit (like your language preference) so subsequent visits work correctly.
We also use browser localStorage in some places, which is similar to a cookie but is never automatically transmitted to our servers — it stays in your browser until you clear it.
Cookies We Use Inside the Shopify Admin App
Viking Watermark is an embedded Shopify Admin app, which means it runs inside an iframe served by Shopify. Cookies inside this iframe must comply with strict cross-site rules.
app-locale (CHIPS-compliant)
- Purpose: Stores your selected interface language (e.g., en, tr, de, fr, es, pt-BR) so the app stays in your chosen language across sessions.
- Type: First-party, CHIPS-compliant (SameSite=None; Secure; Partitioned) — required for cookies to work inside Shopify's embedded admin iframe.
- Lifetime: Up to 1 year, or until you change your language preference.
- Set by: Viking Watermark (us).
Shopify App Bridge cookies
- Purpose: Embedded-app authentication and session handling between Shopify's chrome and the app iframe.
- Set by: Shopify (not us).
- Managed by: Shopify. See Shopify's privacy policy for details.
Storage We Use on the Marketing Website
Our marketing website (vikingwatermark.com) uses localStorage, not cookies, for the same purpose:
vw_lang (localStorage)
- Purpose: Remembers your language preference on the marketing site.
- Type: Browser localStorage (not a cookie).
- Transmitted to our servers? No. It stays in your browser only.
- Lifetime: Persists until you clear browser data or change the preference.
Third-Party Cookies
We integrate a small number of third-party services. Each has its own cookie practices:
Crisp (in-app live chat)
- When: Loaded only inside the Shopify Admin app, when you open the live chat widget.
- Purpose: Maintains your chat session and identifies you to our support team.

Formspree (marketing site contact form)
- When: Loaded only when you submit our contact form.
- Purpose: Form delivery and abuse prevention.
Sentry, Resend, Upstash, Fly.io
These services power our backend infrastructure (error tracking, transactional email, caching, hosting). They do not set cookies in your browser through Viking Watermark.
What We Do Not Use
Viking Watermark does not use:
- Advertising cookies (e.g., Google Ads, Facebook Pixel).
- Cross-site tracking cookies that follow you across other websites.
- Behavioural profiling based on your browsing.
- Fingerprinting techniques to track devices without cookies.
We do not sell or share cookie data with any third party for advertising or marketing purposes.
How to Manage or Disable Cookies
You can control cookies through your browser settings:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies
You can also clear localStorage by clearing site data in the same panels.
Note: Disabling cookies inside the Shopify Admin app may break the embedded app experience or prevent it from loading at all, because Shopify itself relies on cookies for authentication. Disabling localStorage on our marketing site will simply reset your language preference each visit.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy when we add, remove, or change a cookie or storage technology. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
- Display a notice in the Viking Watermark app dashboard for significant changes.
Continued use of the app or website after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
